VP Travel Report #5-San Diego/AmericasMarines250

The press pool traveled independently to Marine Corps Air Station Miramir on Sunday morning.

The Vice President's motorcade arrived at Air Force Two at the air station at 11:17am local to return to Washington DC. The Vice President exited the vehicle, helped his two eldest children out, patting one on the back as they hustled up the steps to the plane. He then walked toward the plane and shook hands and took photos with the motorcade drivers from the trip. He then posed for a photo with the local law enforcement that escorted his motorcade.

Vance was wearing blue suit no tie. Second Lady Usha Vance exited the vehicle last, with a brown leather backpack and carrying their youngest.

The vice president ignored multiple shouted questions from the pool, primarily centered on whether he’s planning to travel to Israel and the latest bout of tumult between Israel and Hamas amid the ceasefire agreement. He waved once he got to the top of stairs and boarded at 11:22am.

We'll be wheels up for the 5 hour flight back to Joint Base Andrews shortly.

VP Travel Pool Report #6 -- San Diego/AmericasMarines250 event

Air Force Two Landed at Joint Base Andrews at 6:50pm local.

The vice president came over for a brief gaggle under the wing.

He began by saying how excited he was to be with the marines and vice versa. He then took questions on Israel, repatriation of the survivors in the Caribbean, and on Ukraine-Russia. Some quotes below as well as otter link. Check quotes against tape.

Q on going to Israel?

"We might. We're trying to figure it out, obviously want to go and check on how things are going. I think somebody from the administration is certainly going to be over there in the next few days. It might be me. But we're going to figure out how to travel there."

Q on how confident truce can hold given the events of the last 24 hours?

"Look it's going to be complicated. I mean the best case scenario, meaning if this thing absolutely produces that sustainable long term peace that the president and I hope that it will there's going to be fits and starts. There are going to be Hamas is going to fire on Israel. Israel's going to have to respond of course. There are going to be moments where you have people within Gaza that you're quite sure what they're actually doing. But we think it has the best chance for sustainable peace but even if it does that its going to have hills and valleys and we're going to have to monitor the situation."

Q on repatriating survivors in the Caribbean?

"Our main focus is to blow up these boats that have narcotics on them."

Q on optimism for Russia-Ukraine resolution?

"We're going to keep on walking down pathway for peace. Whether it takes us another few months another few weeks or God forbid longer than that we're going to keep on working on it. How confident am I that this is going to get wrapped up I feel optimistic but the timeline is anyone's guess."

Q on tomahawks

President hasn't made that decision.
