United States Ambassador to the People's Republic of China Nomination of Leonard Woodcock.

The President today announced that he will nominate Leonard Woodcock, of Detroit, Mich., to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to the People's Republic of China.

Woodcock has been Chief of the United States Liaison Office with the People's Republic of China since 1977. He was born February 15, 1911, in Providence, R.I., and attended Wayne State University.

Woodcock was with the United Automobile Workers of America from 1940 until 1977, and served ,as president from 1970 to 1977.
