Statement by the Press Secretary on H.R. 3649, S. 1340, and S. 1368

September 29, 2005

On Thursday, September 29, 2005, the President signed into law:

H.R. 3649, the "Sportfishing and Recreational Boating Safety Amendments Act of 2005," which provides funding for boating safety and sportfishing programs funded out of the Highway Trust Fund through the end of FY 2005; and reallocates FY 2005 budgetary resources for certain programs supported by the Highway Trust Fund, including the operating expenses of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration;

S. 1340, which extends through FY 2015, authority to spend interest from the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Fund to support projects carried out under the North American Wetlands Conservation Act; and

S. 1368, which extends the United States Parole Commission for an additional three years, until November 1, 2008; and requires the United States Sentencing Commission to amend certain Federal sentencing guidelines, commentary, and policy statements.
