Statement on Signing an Executive Order on Helping Left-Behind Communities Make a Comeback

January 19, 2025

When I took office, too many American communities had been left behind. Decades of trickle-down economics offshored manufacturing jobs, slashed public investment, and hollowed out communities that were once the backbone of our Nation's growth. My administration has made historic investments to help left-behind communities, such as distressed areas, factory towns, and coal communities, turn setbacks into comebacks.

Today I am signing an Executive order to ensure this support continues and that left-behind communities have access to the resources they need. Thanks to policies like these, and the commitment of local leaders, places across the country—rural and urban, red and blue—have renewed hope.

NOTE: The statement referred to Executive Order 14145.
