Statement of Administration Policy: S.J. Res. 10 - A Joint Resolution Terminating the National Emergency Declared with Respect to Energy
STATEMENT OF ADMINISTRATION POLICY
(Senate)
(Sen. Kaine, D-VA, and 11 cosponsors)
The Administration strongly opposes S.J. Res. 10. This resolution would undermine the Administration's ability to respond effectively to our Nation's insufficient energy production by terminating the national emergency the President declared on January 20, 2025. The previous Administration's energy policies drove up prices and harmed our Nation's national security. Now, swift and decisive action is needed to ensure a reliable, diversified, growing, and affordable supply of domestic energy and critical minerals, which would drive our Nation's manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, and defense industries, and would sustain the basics of modern life and military preparedness.
The United States has the potential to use its unrealized energy resources to create jobs and economic prosperity for Americans, improve the United States' trade balance, help our country compete with hostile foreign powers, strengthen relations with allies and partners, and support international peace and security. This Administration will continue to put the physical and economic wellbeing of the American people first.
For these reasons, if S.J. Res. 10 were presented to the President in its current form, his advisors would recommend that he veto it.
