Statement of Administration Policy: H.R. 884 - To Prohibit Individuals Who Are Not Citizens of the United States From Voting in Elections in the District of Columbia and to Repeal the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022
STATEMENT OF ADMINISTRATION POLICY
(House Rules)
(Rep. Pfluger, R-TX, and 14 cosponsors)
The Administration strongly supports passage of H.R. 884, which would prohibit individuals who are not citizens of the United States from voting in elections in the District of Columbia (D.C.) and repeal the D.C. Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022. The American people should have confidence in the integrity of our elections, especially in our Nation's capital, the only city which belongs to all of us. Yet, D.C. has undermined our election integrity by allowing non-citizens to vote in local elections, effectively diluting the voting power of our citizens and opening the door to fraud.
Free, fair, and honest elections—unmarred by suspicion—are essential to our Constitutional Republic. Restoring integrity and trust in elections requires the prevention of non-citizens from voting. H.R. 884 would repeal D.C.'s democracy-diluting law. Elections in the United States, including its capital, are meant to be decided by Americans, and not by non-citizens.
If H.R. 884 were presented to the President in its current form, his advisors would recommend that he sign it into law.
