Statement of Administration Policy: H.R. 2255 - Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act of 2025

May 13, 2025

STATEMENT OF ADMINISTRATION POLICY

(House Rules)
(Rep. Fry, R-SC)

The Administration strongly supports passage of H.R. 2255, the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act of 2025. This bill would provide a path for Federal law enforcement officers to purchase a firearm at salvage value from the Federal agency that issued the firearm to them after the firearm is retired, if the officer is in good standing, and the purchase is made within six months.

In the course of their duties, law enforcement officers train and work to keep American families safe. In doing so, officers often become connected with their firearm and gain the skills to use it judiciously and effectively when in and out of uniform. The more Americans who are ready and able to defend themselves, their property, and their community, the safer we all become.

If H.R. 2255 were presented to the President in its current form, his advisors would recommend that he sign it into law.
