Statement of Administration Policy: H.R. 2240 - Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act

May 13, 2025

STATEMENT OF ADMINISTRATION POLICY

(House Rules)
(Rep. Moore, R-NC, and 22 cosponsors)

The Administration strongly supports passage of H.R. 2240, the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act. The number of threats against and physical attacks on law enforcement officers across the United States is unacceptable. This legislation would require the Attorney General to develop a report on violent attacks on law enforcement officers. This report would also include a survey of State and local responses to such attacks, an analysis of the effectiveness of law enforcement training programs in response to attacks, and recommendations to improve Federal, State, and local response to attacks.

Law enforcement officers bravely serve and risk their lives every day for our safety and the rule of law. Collecting more information so that the Federal Government can better understand their needs, the problems they face, and the options we have before us is a step forward in improving morale, effectiveness, and, ultimately, public safety.

If H.R. 2240 were presented to the President in its current form, his advisors would recommend that he sign it into law.
