Readout of Vice President Biden's Call With Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani

The Vice President spoke today with the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani. The Vice President thanked President Barzani for his leadership and continued cooperation with Prime Minister Abadi and the Iraqi government to defeat ISIL and ensure lasting stability in Iraq. The leaders underscored the urgency of sustaining momentum for the liberation of Mosul and other ISIL-held territories. Both leaders also stressed the importance of ensuring that all military operations in Iraq respect Iraq's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the ongoing strategic partnership between the United States and Iraq.
