Readout of Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff's Meeting with Jewish Student Leaders at Cornell University
Today, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff and United States Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom Rashad Hussain met with students and administrators at Cornell University. During the meeting, they heard from Cornell University President Martha E. Pollack, Cornell Chief of Police Anthony Bellamy, and other administrators about the alarming antisemitic threats made against Jewish students on Cornell's campus in October. Following this meeting, the Second Gentleman and Ambassador Hussain also hosted a roundtable with Jewish student leaders in Cornell's kosher and multicultural dining room, which was targeted with antisemitic threats. The students shared their personal experiences, fears, and thoughts about how to improve dialogue in academia.
Mr. Emhoff offered messages of hope and resilience, while stressing the importance of keeping students safe from violence and hateful rhetoric on college campuses. He also spoke about the work the Biden-Harris Administration is doing to counter Antisemitism, Islamophobia and other forms of hate in schools and on college campuses.
