February 15, 2024

Today, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, U.S. Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, and U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom Rashad Hussain convened Jewish American, Muslim American, and Arab American, including Palestinian American, young leaders for a roundtable discussion on the sharp rise in Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and other forms of hate after the October 7 terrorist attacks in Israel.

During the conversation, participants shared their personal stories, discussed the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and described the impact of the sharp rise in Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and other forms of hate on their families and communities.

The officials described efforts to seek peace, security, and dignity for both the Palestinian people and the Israeli people and to address the recent increase in hate-fueled rhetoric and violence. They emphasized the Biden-Harris Administration's commitment to bringing communities together and fostering interfaith dialogue to form solutions and forge paths forward. The officials also reiterated the United States' commitment to working with partners and allies to advance human rights and protect fundamental freedoms.

In December of 2022, President Biden established an inter-agency group to increase and better coordinate U.S. Government efforts to counter Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and related forms of bias and discrimination within the United States. In May, the Biden-Harris Administration released the inter-agency group's first deliverable of the U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism. In November, Vice President Harris announced that the inter-agency group would develop the U.S. National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia and related forms of bias and discrimination later this year.
