President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one individual and designate one individual to serve in his Administration.

The President intends to nominate Robert Hastings, of Maryland, to be Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs). Mr. Hastings currently serves as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs). Prior to this, he served as Vice President of Corporate Communications at BAE Systems, Inc. Earlier in his career, he served as a Major in the United States Army. Mr. Hastings received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland.

The President intends to designate Gordon S. Heddell, of Virginia, to be Acting Inspector General of the United States Department of Defense.
