The President today announced his intention to nominate Albert Carnesale, of Lexington, Mass., to be a member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Upon confirmation by the Senate, he will be designated Chairman.
Carnesale was born July 2, 1936, the Bronx, N.Y. He received a B.M.E. from The Cooper Union in 1957, an M.S. from Drexel Institute in 1962, and a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in 1966.
From 1957 to 1962, he was senior engineer for the nuclear division of the Martin Marietta Corp., in Baltimore, Md. Carnesale was Chief of the Defensive Weapons Systems Division of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency from 1969 to 1972. From 1972 to 1974, he was professor and head of the division of university studies and university coordinator for environmental studies at North Carolina State University. Since 1974 Carnesale has been professor of public policy in the John F. Kennedy School of Government and associate director of the Center for Science and International Affairs.
