Nomination of Ints M. Silins To Be United States Ambassador to Latvia

The President has announced his intention to nominate Ints M. Silins, of Virginia, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Counselor, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Latvia.

Currently Mr. Silins serves as Charge d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Riga, Latvia. Prior to this, he served as U.S. consul general in Strasbourg, France, 1989 - 1991; Deputy Director for Bilateral Political Relations for the Office of Soviet Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, 1987 - 1989; a fellow at the Center for International Affairs at Harvard University, 1986 - 1987; Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, 1983 - 1986; and Deputy Principal Officer for the U.S. consulate general in Leningrad, U.S.S.R., 1981 - 1983.

Mr. Silins graduated from Princeton University (A.B., 1965). He was born March 25, 1942, in Riga, Latvia. Mr. Silins served in the U.S. Army Reserve, 1966 - 1972. He is married, has four children, and resides in Alexandria, VA.
