Nomination of Donald Ian Macdonald To Be Administrator of the Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health Administration

The President today announced his intention to nominate Donald Ian Macdonald to be Administrator of the Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health Administration, Department of Health and Human Services. He would succeed William E. Mayer.

Since 1962 Dr. Macdonald has been a pediatrician in Clearwater, FL. Previously, he was a clinical associate professor of pediatrics, College of Medicine, University of South Florida (1980); and president, Scientific Advisory Board, American Council for Drug Education (1981). Dr. Macdonald is president of the Florida chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Florida Pediatric Society.

Dr. Macdonald graduated from Williams College (B.A., 1952) and Temple University School of Medicine (M.D., 1958). He is married, has four children, and resides in Pinellas, FL. He was born April 15, 1931, in New

York, NY.
