ICYMI: Former OMB Director Peter Orszag Highlights Need for President Biden's American Jobs Plan

Today, Former Office of Management and Budget Director Peter R. Orszag wrote for Bloomberg that investments in the country's bridges as outlined in President Biden's American Jobs Plan are needed, pushing back against pundits who claim that America's infrastructure does not need investments of that scale.

Citing ongoing damage due to climate change as an added source of urgency for the investments, Orszag writes, "Especially given the severe weather that climate change is likely to bring, the White House infrastructure and climate plan is right to spend more to repair and improve roads and bridges."

Orszag argues that delaying spending on bridges will lead to higher costs in the future: "As the bridges grow older and a larger share of them approach the end of their useful lives, it will cost more to maintain or replace them than a backward-looking indicator would suggest."
