Haley Campaign Press Release - Haley Schools Ramaswamy on China

September 27, 2023

Nikki Haley is the most outspoken candidate on combating the growing China threat. She delivered a major policy speech on her plan to get tough on China and often criticizes the Biden administration's and Trump's weakness on the communist regime. Haley is China's worst nightmare. That's why the Chinese government attacks her.

Vivek Ramaswamy got rich off of China, and now he wants to throw Taiwan to the communist wolves. His promise to abandon Taiwan in 2028 sends a dangerous message to our enemies and allies.

Ramaswamy partnered with the Chinese communists to make medicines in China at the same time the Chinese government was focused on competing with American biotech companies. He doesn't have a leg to stand on when he's talking about our dependence on China.

  • In an interview with Hugh Hewitt, Ramaswamy said he will abandon Taiwan after America achieves semiconductor independence in 2028: "And I'm being very clear: Xi Jinping should not mess with Taiwan until we have achieved semiconductor independence, until the end of my first term when I will lead us there. And after that, our commitments to Taiwan, our commitments to be willing to go to military conflict, will change after that, because that's rationally in our self-interest."
  • Ramaswamy partnered with Chinese companies and made millions while the Chinese Communist Party was competing with American biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
    • In 2018, Ramaswamy debuted a new subsidiary called Sinovant that partnered with a Chinese private equity firm, CITICPE.
    • The news release announcing Sinovant boasted that "CITICPE knows China like no one else." That's not surprising considering CITICPE is part of Citic Group, a Chinese financial powerhouse tied closely to the Chinese Communist Party.
  • Ramaswamy recently joined TikTok, dismissing national security concerns about China using TikTok to steal Americans' information.

  • Washington Post: Vivek Ramaswamy has a China problem — and a Hunter Biden problem
  • National Review: Vivek Ramaswamy takes nationalist logic to its obvious, horrifying conclusion
  • Washington Examiner: Vivek Ramaswamy's foreign policy is clueless and dangerous
  • New York Post: Vivek Ramaswamy suggests he would let China invade Taiwan post-2029 if elected president
  • Washington Post: The GOP China hawk candidates are not all alike

  • Haley is the most outspoken candidate on the growing China threat. She released a detailed plan to combat China, including ending normal trade relations if China does not stop sending fentanyl to America. Haley released the second phase of her China plan in July.
  • As UN ambassador, Haley convinced China and Russia to sign onto the strongest set of sanctions on North Korea ever.
  • As ambassador, Haley warned of China's failure to abide by the rule of law and human rights, stating that the U.S. must turn up the heat on China.
  • Haley called China the number one security threat to America and promised to stop exports of tech equipment.
  • Haley was one of the first leaders to call for a boycott of the Beijing Olympics in 2021.
  • In 2020, Nikki wrote two pieces about the need to separate from China and become more self-reliant.
  • In 2019, Haley gave a major speech on China in which she called on the world to wake up to the increasing Chinese threat.

Praise for Haley on China

  • Josh Rogin, Washington Post: also putting herself forth as a China hawk. But she at least has some real diplomatic experience to tout...She negotiated with Chinese diplomats at the United Nations. She spoke out against Beijing's crackdown on Hong Kong and the Uyghur genocide even when her boss, President Donald Trump, refused to do so.
  • Liz Peek, The Hill: Nikki Haley is right — Biden is weak on China.
  • Stuart Varney, Fox Business: I think you are the only Republican candidate who claims a China plan apart from confronting them over climate.
  • Charles Payne, Fox Business: And I will tell the audience, you've got a strong long record of being tough against China.
  • The State: Nikki Haley has been the most vocal on China and military policies in comparison to other candidates, and her experience as UN ambassador under Trump has led her to use the topic as a defining aspect of her campaign.
