Haley Campaign Press Release - DeSantis Lies About Haley's Record of Protecting Children

It's now become a cliche. A desperate Ron DeSantis takes an out-of-context snippet to try and smear Nikki Haley's conservative record. No one is buying it. His poll numbers are still sinking and his campaign is still imploding.

Nikki Haley has always opposed gender-changing surgeries for minors. She believes adults can make their own decisions, but taxpayers should never be forced to pay for gender-changing surgeries.

FACTS

• On May 3, 2023, Haley told ABC News: "You shouldn't allow a child to have a gender-changing procedure till the age of 18 when they are an adult and they can make that decision. But we shouldn't have taxpayer dollars ever going to that."
• The June 6 interview cited by DeSantis' campaign leaves out a crucial sentence where Haley says: "Then when that child becomes 18 if they want to make more of a permanent change, they can do that."
