FLOTUS pool report #1 - Halloween event begins + guest sightings and background details

FLOTUS and POTUS came out of the diplomatic entrance at 5:49 pm to an orchestra version of Thriller. A group of children in costume followed them out m

FLOTUS is wearing a brown coat over an orange dress. POTUS is in a blue suit, red tie and red USA hat.

Guests for the event include the parents and children of military, law enforcement, foster and adoptive families. Administration officials and their children are also attending.

Stephen and Katie Miller and their children are among the first in line. Katie is dressed as a skeleton. Stephen, wearing a suit and tie, is presumably dressed as a White House staffer.

Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair is in line by the Millers. And Karoline Leavitt is there also with her husband and son, who is dressed as a pumpkin.

The first couple is handing out full-sized Hershey bars and Twizzlers in boxes with the presidential seal.

Lots of pumpkins around the portico balcony and its staircase (the pumpkins will be donated to DC Central Kitchen, per the East Wing). Fall flowers - orange and red mums - are among the pumpkins as are strands of grain.

Strings of orange, brown, and gold leaned dangle from the top of the White House down to the portico balcony. A sign reads Halloween 2025.

And Air Force string quartet is playing music appropriate for the holiday including the Harry Potter theme and Game of Thrones theme.

The rain from earlier in the day is gone and it's a beautiful evening at 62 degrees.

Both the White House and our friends at CSPAN are live streaming the event but your pooler will send color and sightings.

Reminder: Thousands of parents and childrenincluding military families, law enforcement families, foster and adoptive families, and Administration officials with children, will file along the South Drive.

CANDY: Very similar to year's past, there are full-size Hershey's chocolate bars and Twizzlers in festive Halloween boxes featuring the Presidential Seal and the signatures of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. POTUS and FLOTUS are handing out the Hershey chocolate bars during their participation at 5:30pm ET among all the candies that will be available during the event at various booths set up by our partners.

Please see the list of partners participating at the bottom in our release.

Statement Attributable to Frey Farms CEO Sarah Frey:  Frey Farms is proud to continue working with the White House to celebrate America's harvest and the farmers who make it possible. Our pumpkins represent the strength of American agriculture and the importance of healthy, homegrown food. We are honored to support this tradition and to contribute to local food assistance through DC Central Kitchen.

Background from Frey Farms CEO Sarah Frey:

  • Since the late 50's, the White House has publicly celebrated the annual harvest and resulting fall family fun and used traditional Halloween decorations like pumpkins throughout the Executive Mansion and grounds.
  • From large parties to small family gatherings, the celebration of the bounty that comes about from America's farmlands has persisted throughout the last thirteen Presidencies. Since the late 80's, trick-or-treaters have descended upon the South Lawn in this event, with President Biden seeing the number of attendees grow by thousands.
  • President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump continue to decorate the White House honor tradition and host this celebration. Through their actions, the President and First Lady are demonstrating their appreciation for the hard work and patriotism of American farmers — people who faithfully plant seeds in the soil and look forward to an annual harvest that they hope will feed their families and others.
  • Providing healthy whole foods such as pumpkins; which are a rich, nutrient-dense, healthy and whole food in addition to being festive decorations — helps our nation honor farmers and the bounty of our land. Importantly, these pumpkins will also become a key piece of holiday meals and other food assistance distributed by the local nonprofit DC Central Kitchen.

FLOTUS pool report #2 - event color and POTUS quotes

Some color from the event:

FLOTUS bent down to greet a little Trex. One enterprising child finagled candy from both POTUS and FLOTUS.

A group of three small girls - a princess, a ballerina and a bee - appeared not to know what to make of the situation, standing a few feet away from the first couple and staring. The wave of a candy bar from POTUS got them over.

A banana was coaxed over by FLOTUS, took a candy bar and ran.

POTUS signed a golf ball for a child appeared to be dressed as Tiger Woods.

"It's a long line. It's almost as big as the ballroom," POTUS yelled to the press.

The line appears to go down the South Drive.

Lots of parents stopped to talk to POTUS, causing some line delays. There was an assortment of costumes: members of the military, dinosaurs, pumpkins, Buc-ee's beaver, a McDonald's French fry box.

At one point POTUS turned around to the Air Force band and appeared to ask them to change the music - a slow orchestral song was playing. The music changed to a faster beat orchestral song.

Other White House staff spotted: Will Scharf

FLOTUS pool report #3 - more color and event ends

POTUS high fived a boy appeared to be dressed as him. The boy was wearing a blue suit, red tie and red hat. The little girl with him was dressed in a white coat, a la Melania Trump. FLOTUS appeared to be complimenting them. After those kids got their candy, POTUS directed the kids to turn around and pose with the Trumps for photos.

When a family wanted a group photo with the Trumps, FLOTUS wrangled the smallest member - who was about to dash off - into the shot.

FLOTUS later bent down to comfort a little girl who seemed a bit overwhelmed by the event.

POTUS continued to direct the event as needed - when the line slowed he crocked his finger at the kids to get them moving toward the Trumps. At one point he tossed a Hershey's bar at a dad, who caught it.

POTUS also put a candy bar on top of the light up cap of a kid dressed at the EDM DJ Marshmallow (thanks to DailyMail's Jon Michael Raasch for the costume ID).

More memorable costumes: a McDonald's drive through (two kids in a wagon with a McDonald's sign), a Statue of Liberty, and Secret Service agents.

Staff were swapping out the baskets of candy for the first couple. At one point POTUS was signaling for a new one.

As the sun went down, the White House was lit up in orange.

Staff cut off the line off at 6:38 pm and the Trumps put down their baskets and posed for photos.

POTUS - holding FLOTUS' hand - came up to the press and yelled he was going to do a tele townhall. It was hard to hear him over the music. He gestured back to the White House.

POTUS and FLOTUS went back inside at 6:41 pm.

And that's a wrap for Halloween at the White House.
