FLOTUS Note: "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" crafts Pool was led into the East Garden at 11:00 AM for crafts with FLOTUS at the White House's "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day." Children of EOP staff were seated at two long tables, decorating wooden American flags with markers, pom-poms, and glitter stars. Their parents hovered along a rope line nearby. (Among them, OMB director Russ Vought.) FLOTUS entered the garden at 11:09 AM in a white button-down and green floral pencil skirt. She stopped by one of the tables to greet the kids. "So quiet!" she observed of their silent crafting. FLOTUS joined children at a long table closest to the press. "So, tell me some stories," she said after she sat. "What do you do? What do you like to do?" (FLOTUS spoke softly, so much of what she said was inaudible to the pool.) Children wandered up to FLOTUS to show her their decorated flags. FLOTUS also decorated a flag with the traditional 13 stripes and two giant glitter stars. (The star will remain outdoors, as glitter is allowed in garden but not the residence, given its role as a museum and home to historic artifacts.) After 15 minutes, FLOTUS stood up to leave. "Enjoy your day, have a good time," she said to the children, telling them about the other activities planned for the day. "Thank your parents for what they do…thank your parents for their service," she added. As FLOTUS exited, a reporter asked whether she had any wishes for the Biden family. FLOTUS acknowledged the press with a wave but did not respond. "See you next year?" she said, turning back to the children. "Bye everybody." FLOTUS left the garden at 11:28 PM. |
