Executive Order 8170—Authorizing the Appointment of A. Sidney Johnson to the Position of Deputy Commissioner of Customs Without Regard to Civil Service Rules

June 15, 1939

By virtue of and pursuant to the authority vested in me by the provisions of paragraph Eighth, subdivision SECOND, section 2 of the Civil Service Act (22 Stat. 403, 404), it is hereby ordered that A. Sidney Johnson may be appointed a deputy commissioner of customs in the Bureau of Customs, Treasury Department, at Washington, D.C., without compliance with the requirements of the Civil Service Rules.
