Executive Order 4239—Transfer of Bureau of Mines to Commerce Department

I, Calvin Coolidge, President of the United States of America, under the authority conferred upon me by the act of February 14, 1903, entitled "An Act to establish the Department of Commerce and Labor" (32 Stats., 826), and by virtue of all other powers thereto me enabling, do hereby transfer from the Department of the Interior to the Department of Commerce, to be administered under the supervision of the Secretary of Commerce, the Bureau of Mines and the employees thereof, save and except those employees engaged on oil-leasing work and mineral-leasing work, who, with their equipment, shall remain in the Interior Department, together with all appropriations pertaining to the said Bureau of Mines, save and except the appropriations with which the oil and mineral-leasing work respectively, are paid for and conducted; the records, save and except those pertaining to leasing work above mentioned, and all public property of said service in the District of Columbia or elsewhere, as provided in the act of February 14, 1903, supra.

Further, under the authority recited herein, I do hereby transfer from the Department of the Interior to the Department of Commerce, to be administered under the supervision of the Secretary of Commerce, the Division of Mineral Resources in the Geological Survey, the employees connected therewith, together with all appropriations for Mineral Resources under the Geological Survey, the records pertaining to said Division, the records of all public property of said Division in the District of Columbia or elsewhere as provided in the act of February 14, 1903, supra.

The transfers above-mentioned shall be effective from and including July 1, 1925.
