Executive Order 2596—Allowing Treasury Department Employees to be Appointed on Defense Organizations

April 14, 1917

The provisions of the Executive Order of January 17, 1873, prohibiting Federal employees from holding office under any State, Territorial, or Municipal Government, are hereby waved to permit the appointment of such employees in and under the Treasury Department, with the approval of the Secretary of the Treasury, on any State, county, or municipal council or committee of defense for purposes of mobilizing and conserving the resources of the country.

This order is issued on the recommendation of the Secretary of the Treasury.
