DeSantis Campaign Press Release - Proven Leader Ron DeSantis Uses His Lawful Authority to Do the Right Thing for the People He Serves
Ron DeSantis is a conservative leader who uses the levers of government to stand up for the people he serves – and he will do the same as President. He will never outsource leadership to corporations, bureaucrats, or special interests. As DeSantis said in his inaugural address, threats to freedom can come from "entrenched bureaucrats in D.C., jet-setters in Davos, and corporations wielding public power." He will always defend individuals and families against these threats. As DeSantis said, no matter how powerful a corporation or government entity may be, nobody "has the right to do wrong."
DeSantis has exercised his constitutional powers to end Disney's corporate kingdom, rein in local governments from forcing masks and lockdowns, ensure Special Olympics athletes could compete regardless of vaccination status, and keep families safe by removing Soros-backed prosecutors who failed to uphold laws. This isn't "big government conservatism," it is upholding the will of the voters. America needs more of it.
DESANTIS' RECORD
- Governor DeSantis Abolished Disney's Corporate Kingdom and Extraordinary Special Privileges:
- "Allowing a corporation to control its own government is bad policy, especially when the corporation makes decisions that impact an entire region," said DeSantis. "This legislation ends Disney's self-governing status, makes Disney live under the same laws as everybody else, and ensures that Disney pays its debts and fair share of taxes."
- In an interview with Brian Kilmeade, DeSantis said of Disney: "As a parent of three young kids - we are going to fight the sexualization of minors … You can't just be a lackey for corporate America … The days of Republicans just deferring to large corporations need to be over."
- Governor DeSantis Protected Citizens from Government and Private Sector Abuses of Power:
- In 2021, some counties and school districts in Florida were still attempting to impose mask mandates and other restrictions. Governor DeSantis signed executive orders preventing local authorities from imposing lockdowns and mask mandates, and ensuring that parents have the right to choose whether their children wear masks in school.
- DeSantis was the first governor to ban vaccine passports; in Florida, neither government agencies nor businesses can require individuals to provide proof of COVID vaccination as a condition of entry or service. After DeSantis banned employer vaccine mandates, Disney dropped this discriminatory policy for Florida workers, saving many jobs.
- In 2022, Special Olympics International attempted to impose a COVID vaccine mandate for athletes to compete in Florida. Governor DeSantis stepped in to ensure this discriminatory policy could not be enforced. Thanks to DeSantis, all athletes were able to compete – and their families were grateful to DeSantis for using the power of his office to stand up for them.
- Governor DeSantis has used his constitutional authority to defend law and order by removing elected officials who were derelict in their duties:
- DeSantis is the only governor to have replaced two Soros-backed prosecutors who failed to uphold laws: Andrew Warren in 2022 and Monique Worrell in 2023.
- Among his first acts as governor, in January 2019, DeSantis replaced two county election supervisors who had failed to conduct transparent and fair elections in 2018. DeSantis also removed Broward Sheriff Scott Israel for failing to keep children and teachers safe during the tragic Parkland school shooting in 2018.
