Department of State Nomination of J. Brian Atwood To Be an Assistant Secretary.

The President today announced that he will nominate J. Brian Atwood, of Maryland, to be an Assistant Secretary of State for congressional relations. He will replace Douglas J. Bennet, Jr., who has resigned.

Atwood was born July 25, 1942, in Wareham, Mass. He received his B.A. in 1964 from Boston University and attended graduate studies at American University in 1970.

He was research analyst at the National Security Agency from 1964 to 1966. From 1966 to 1971, he worked for the Department of State, first as regional administrative specialist at Abidjan and then as personnel officer at Madrid. From 1971 to 1977, he was legislative assistant to Senator Thomas F. Eagleton. Since 1977 he has held the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Congressional Relations.
