September 12, 2024

This week, folks across the country heard first-hand from White House officials how President Biden and Vice President Harris are laser-focused on delivering for hardworking Americans.

On Monday, the Biden-Harris Administration unveiled new efforts to improve and strengthen access to mental health care for 175 million Americans with private health insurance.

WECP (Panama City, Florida): "Christen Linke Young, Assistant to President Biden says the demand for mental health services continues to grow. 'Kids are really struggling, in many ways with mental health needs and so it was imperative that we close those gaps, that we enforce the law on the books to ensure that health insurance companies are taking the steps they need to make mental health services really accessible for people.'"

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of the Treasury released new data showing that 1 in 7 residents have benefitted from health coverage through the Affordable Care Act marketplace in the past decade, thanks to efforts by the Biden-Harris Administration, which lowered the cost of ACA coverage by an average of $800 per year for millions of Americans.

WWJ Newsradio 950 (Detroit, Michigan): "Almost 50 million Americans, or 1 in 7, have been covered through the Affordable Care Act since January of 2014. Part of the reason for the high enrollment numbers is the Biden Administration's decision to lower the cost of marketplace coverage by expanding the premium tax credit. Since then, the number of Americans covered through the marketplaces has significantly increased. It says open enrollment for this year hit an all-time high of 20.8 million people enrolled and more than 18 million Americans have enrolled for the first time since January 2021."

On Wednesday, the Consumer Price Index for August showed that we are turning the page on inflation, which is down to 2.5%—the lowest rate since February 2021—as President Biden and Vice President Harris fight to lower costs, expand opportunities, and grow the middle class.

KSLA (CBS Shreveport, Louisiana): "New inflation numbers shows that inflation is down to almost pre-pandemic levels. White House Economic Adviser Jared Bernstein breaks down the new numbers... 'Inflation has come back down and eased in some key areas – we actually have prices flat or falling, we've had inflation of zero, and gas prices are actually down $0.60 from where it was a year ago. That's all breathing room.'"

On Thursday, to mark the 30th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act, a landmark piece of bipartisan legislation written and championed by then U.S. Senator Joe Biden, the White House announced new actions to further address gender-based violence and support survivors.

Spectrum News 1 North Carolina: The Biden Administration is rolling out new measures aimed at fighting gender-based violence. This announcement comes 30 years to the day that the violence against women act became law. The White House says President Joe Biden wrote the law back in 1990, when he was a U.S. Senator. This extended historic protections and support to survivors of domestic violence and assault and this evening Biden will unveil the new measures including $690 million dollars in grant funding to support survivors.

On Friday, President Biden hosted the first-ever Black Excellence Brunch at the White House, celebrating how the Administration has delivered for the community.

WGN (Chicago, Illinois): Mayor Brandon Johnson is in Washington, D.C. today as a guest of President Biden, attending the White House Black Excellence Brunch on the South Lawn. It's billed as the first of its kind event dedicated to the Black community's extensive contributions to American culture and history.
