Appointment of Charles N. Brower as Deputy Special Counsellor to the President

The President today announced the appointment of Charles N. Brower to be Deputy Special Counsellor to the President.

Since 1984 Judge Brower has been a Judge of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal in The Hague, The Netherlands, an international tribunal composed of independent judges; and since 1985 he has been a member of the board of governors of the American Bar Association. Previously, he practiced law with the firm of White & Case in New York City and Washington, DC, 1961-1969 and 1973-1984; and from 1969-1973, he served in various positions at the Department of State, including Acting Legal Adviser.

Judge Brower graduated from Harvard College (B.A., 1957) and Harvard Law School (J.D., 1961), and he was a Fulbright scholar in Germany (1957-1958). He was born June 5, 1935, in Plainfield, NJ.
