Advisory: Vice President Kamala Harris to Return to Atlanta, GA for Quavo's Rocket Foundation Summit
On Tuesday, June 18, Vice President Kamala Harris will return to Atlanta, GA to continue her leadership on preventing gun violence and keeping communities safe. During her second visit to Atlanta in less than a week, the Vice President will join GRAMMY-nominated artist and philanthropist Quavo for a moderated conversation at the first-ever Rocket Foundation Summit that is taking place on Takeoff's birthday. This follows a September conversation at the White House where the Vice President and Quavo discussed ways to advance commonsense gun safety policies. This will be the Vice President's fifth visit to Georgia this year and her 14th since being sworn in.
Vice President Harris continues to lead the Administration's work to address the epidemic of gun violence while overseeing the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. In April, she announced new administration action to expand background checks, close deadly loopholes, and reduce gun violence. In March, the Vice President traveled to Parkland, FL where she launched the first-ever National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center, which will support the effective implementation of state red flag laws. In February, she participated in a convening of community violence intervention leaders and highlighted the more than $250 million in funding for community violence intervention programs that is a result of the historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. In January, she announced an additional $285 million in funding to help schools hire and train mental health counselors as part of the largest investment in student mental health in history with $1 billion to help hire and train more than 14,000 school mental health professionals throughout America.
The Vice President will also be in Atlanta this Friday to continue her nationwide Economic Opportunity Tour with a moderated conversation at the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. 38th Annual Conference. She last visited the city in April to launch the Economic Opportunity Tour and highlight a $158 million grant that Atlanta received under the Department of Transportation's Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Program. This award will fund "The Stitch." In February, she traveled to Savannah for the third stop on her Fight for Reproductive Freedoms tour. Vice President Harris also began the year with a trip to Atlanta to convene community leaders who are on the frontlines of protecting voting rights and other hard-fought, hard-won freedoms.
