Federal Emergency Management Agency Appointment of Gloria C. Jimenez as Acting Associate Director.

The President today announced the appointment of Gloria C. Jimenez as Acting Associate Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The reorganization plan creating FEMA established four Associate Director positions, one of which was designated for insurance and hazard mitigation functions that will be transferred to FEMA from HUD's Federal Insurance Administration (FIA).

Jimenez has been Administrator of FIA since February 1978.

Jimenez, 46, is a former deputy commissioner and general counsel of the North Carolina Department of Insurance. She has also served as a housing consultant and assistant director of the Low Income Housing Development Corporation in Durham, N.C., and as director of housing and urban programs for the North Carolina Department of Local Affairs. She holds an LL.B. from Brooklyn Law School.
