OF THE MILLIONS who mourn Helen Keller today, there are countless numbers whose personal burdens will always be lightened by the memory of her magnificent faith, courage, and achievements. The gifts she has left behind--the gifts of character and conviction-are America's most precious heritage.

Note: Helen Keller died on June 1 at the age of 87 at her home in Easton, Conn. The statement was released at Austin, Texas.
