Statement of Administration Policy: H.R. 4378 - Monuments in the National Capital

The Administration supports House enactment of H.R. 4378, but will seek changes in the Senate, including those to:

— stipulate that the Department of Defense will be a member of the Commission;

— include National Park System lands in Arlington County, Virginia in Area II. The scope of the bill currently covers only the District of Columbia;

— require approval by the Secretary of the Interior of design and site location for memorials subject to the bill;

— clarify that the bill applies only to National Park System lands; and

— other technical changes.
