Readout of National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan's Meeting with Secretary for Strategic Affairs Gustavo Beliz of Argentina

Today, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Secretary for Strategic Affairs Secretary Gustavo Beliz of Argentina at the White House to advance a roadmap for bilateral cooperation established at their August meeting in Buenos Aires. They focused on joint efforts to address the climate crisis, leveraging international financial institutions to promote a sustainable and equitable economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and working together to foster innovation in the digital economy and emerging technology. They reviewed preparations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26). Their respective technical teams met to advance talks on the promotion of a vibrant and digital ecosystem underpinned by secure and trustworthy information and communications technology and services. On human rights, both pledged to work together on the United Nations Human Rights Council, to partner in the defense of human rights and civil liberties, and to promote social, ethnic, and racial equity. They explored ways to address the deteriorating security situation in Haiti. Both noted the importance of ending and recovering from the pandemic, the need to increase regional vaccine production capability, and pandemic preparedness. Finally, Mr. Sullivan and Secretary Beliz discussed Argentina's ongoing talks with the International Monetary Fund. They recognized the importance of a successful negotiation and measures in the wake of the pandemic that contribute to sustainable debt and long-term, inclusive growth.
