Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs John R. Bolton met with National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister Shotaro Yachi of Japan on May 4, 2018. Ambassador Bolton and Mr. Yachi confirmed close, ongoing coordination on North Korea, including on the upcoming United States-North Korea meeting. They committed to maintaining close trilateral cooperation among Japan, the United States, and the Republic of Korea. Ambassador Bolton and Mr. Yachi reaffirmed the shared goal of achieving the complete and permanent dismantlement of North Korea's weapons of mass destruction, including all nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles, biological and chemical weapons, and related programs.
