* Charlotte was originally selected as the host city for the 2020 Republican National Convention. On June 11, 2020 it was announced that while some limited business will be conducted in Charlotte, the main convention activities will be moved to Jacksonville, Florida. The decision was made when authorities in North Carolina could not guarantee that delegates would be able to congregate in large numbers indoors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
