FLOTUS Pool Report #1 - Roundtable begins At 1:06pm, First Lady Melania Trump entered the East Room of the White House through the Green Room doors to a standing ovation. She is joined by members of the White House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Education, private sector leaders and over 100 leaders who have "pledged to support AI Education and/or the Presidential AI Challenge from organizations big and small," per the East Wing. They are seated around a horseshoe shaped table in front of gold candelabras and four American flags. The first lady is sitting in the middle of the table, next to OSTP Director Michael Kratsios and Education Sec. Linda McMahon. She is wearing a khaki colored suit. FLOTUS Pool Report #2 - FLOTUS introductory remarks on AI FLOTUS remarks as prepared for delivery from East Wing: We are Living in a Moment of Wonder. Thank you for joining me to address this important issue, Secretaries Wright, McMahon, Rollins, and Chavez-DeRemer. It's wonderful to be here today alongside private sectors leaders like Mr. Pichai, Mr. Krishna, Mr. Wilson and the many other visionaries from across industry. We are living in a moment of wonder, and it is our responsibility to prepare America's children. Cars now steer themselves through our cities, robots hold steady hands in the operating room, and drones are redefining the future of war. Inventions of first-generation humanoids, factory automation, and autonomous vehicles have surged from private sector investment. Every one of these advancements is powered by AI. The robots are here. Our future is no longer science fiction. In fact, I predict AI will represent the single largest growth category in our nation during this administration – and I won't be surprised if AI becomes known as the greatest engine of progress in the history of the United States of America. But, as leaders and parents we must manage AI's growth responsibly. During this primitive stage, it is our duty to treat AI as we would our own children – empowering, but with watchful guidance. Today, this room is filled with the brightest minds of our time. As such, I challenge you to focus on 3 strategic priorities of AI's ecosystem so America can lead in shaping a new, magnificent world: Infrastructure & Energy, National Security, and of course - Talent. We must ensure America's talent, our workforce, is prepared to sustain AI's progress, and the Presidential AI Challenge is our first major step to galvanize America's parents, educators, and students with this mission. English is the new "coding language" for many, and with it, creativity will flow from every corner of America, sparking new industries, careers, and jobs. By supporting the Presidential AI Challenge, you are investing in our youth – America's next era builders. I would be remiss if I didn't thank our very determined Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, Mr. Michael Kratsios. Michael's vision will have a profound effect on how emerging technology shapes our future. |

FLOTUS Pool Report #3 - Roundtable concludes After around 40 minutes, the roundtable concluded, and the First Lady and guests left the East Room. A military band, lemonade and cookies were set up for a reception in the grand foyer of the White House. Some notes: OSTP Director Michael Kratsios kicked off remarks by thanking the First Lady for gathering the task force at the WH and highlighted the upcoming Presidential AI Challenge spearheaded by the First Lady. Education Sec. Linda McMahon discussed AI initiatives at the Department of Education and said she is an "adapter" of utilizing AI. She received some light laughs from the audience when she said to the First Lady she would surmise that Barron Trump, the Trumps college age son, is "helping you with a little bit of this as well." Agriculture Sec. Rollins, Labor Sec. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, and Energy Sec. Chris Wright highlighted recent work at their respective departments on integrating AI. Wright said the US needs to "massively grow our electricity production" to meet AI demands. They were followed with brief remarks by David Sacks, AI and Crypto Czar, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, Cameron Wilson, director of Code.org, and Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet and Google. I am told Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was present in the audience, although I could not see from my vantage point! There were well over 150 people in the room. Have a great afternoon, everyone. |
