Richardson Campaign Press Release - Office of Governor Richardson Issues Statement on Medical Marijuana Raid in Eddy County

August 28, 2007

"While we cannot comment on the specifics of the case, the Drug Enforcement Agency's (DEA) targeting a man who is a paraplegic suffering from a spinal cord injury is a policy without compassion," said Allan Oliver, spokesman for Governor Bill Richardson. "As long as Mr. French was within the limits of the medical marijuana state law, we urge the DEA not to prosecute him. US attorneys have their hands full with real drug cases and border violations, and can't afford to waste taxpayer dollars to prosecute individuals who are critically ill or suffering from debilitating conditions."
