The President today announced his intention to nominate Michael E. Baroody to be an Assistant Secretary of Labor (Policy). He would succeed John F. Cogan.

Mr. Baroody is currently serving as Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Public Affairs at the White House. He joined the White House staff as Deputy Director of Communications in April 1981. Prior to that time, he was executive assistant to the United States Trade Representative, William E. Brock. He was public affairs director, and before that research director, at the Republican National Committee in 1977-1981. Prior to 1977, Mr. Baroody held various political and governmental positions, including service as executive assistant to Senator Bob Dole (R-KS) and legislative assistant to Senator Roman Hruska (RNE).

Mr. Baroody graduated from Notre Dame University (B.A., 1968). He served in the U.S. Navy in 1968-1970. He is married, has six children, and resides in Alexandria, VA. He was born September 14, 1946, in Washington, DC.
