Statement on Unemployment Relief in the District of Columbia.

October 30, 1931

A CONFERENCE was held this afternoon with the Chairman of the District Unemployment Committee, representatives of the Community Chest, the District Commissioners, Mr. Gifford's committee, and others in the matter of coordination between the Federal departments with the District activities in relief to unemployment over the winter.

The District authorities will present a plan by which the departments and contractors working on public construction can actively cooperate to handle such unemployment problems as may arise in the District.

Note: Walter S. Gifford was Director of the President's Organization on Unemployment Relief.
