Message to an American Legion Banquet Honoring German and Austrian Veterans of the World War.

May 04, 1931

I AM GLAD to learn that the American Legion is taking the initiative in wiping out the animosities of the War by so gallant an action in good will as the Dinner you are giving this evening for the men who served in the German armed forces and who are now prospective citizens of our own Republic.

HERBERT HOOVER

[The Commander, Lexington Post, American Legion, Banquet Hall, Hotel Astor, New York City]

Note: The message was read at a dinner honoring 150 German and Austrian war veterans who were becoming citizens of the United States. Lexington Post 108 of the American Legion, in cooperation with the Steuben Society, arranged the banquet.
