Message on the Death King George V.

January 20, 1936

It is with deep sorrow that I learn of the death of His Majesty, your father. I send to you my profound sympathy and that of the people of the United States, in whose respect and affection he occupied a high and unique place.

I had the privilege of knowing His Majesty during the war days and his passing brings to me personally a special sorrow.

His Majesty the King,

Sandringham Palace,

Norfolk, England.

Mrs. Roosevelt and I extend to Your Majesty and to the members of your family our heartfelt sympathy and join you in mourning the loss of one whose high qualities of kindness and wisdom have been so powerful an influence for universal peace and justice.

Her Majesty Queen Mary,

Sandringham Palace,

Norfolk, England.
