Statement by the President on the Death of Joseph Pulitzer and Robert R. McCormick.

April 01, 1955

IN THE PASSING of Joseph Pulitzer and Colonel Robert R. McCormick, American journalism has lost the services of two of its outstanding publishers. Although frequently on opposite sides of public issues, both were staunch champions of a free press so essential to our own freedoms.

Mrs. Eisenhower joins me in extending personal sympathy to their families for the great personal loss they have suffered.
