PRESIDENT JOHNSON SIGNS HISTORIC CIVIL RIGHTS BILL
July 2nd, 1964

After finally defeating a 75-day filibuster by southern senators opposed to a bill, the President signed the new law forbidding public, employment and union discrimination against people of color.
