Evening at the Ball

Pool has reassembled outside Mar-a-Lago for a pool spray at the annual Red Cross ball, which will be attended by the President and First Lady.

As our vans were about to cross the Intracoastal Waterway, we passed a handful of anti-Trump protesters (one holding a large sign that said "Yuge Mistake") and a larger number of pro-Trump demonstrators (one banner said "Hillary for Prison").

There is an organized protest against POTUS, which has begun marching along the Intracoastal waterway, but out of sight of the pool.

Meantime, here is a backgrounder on the ball from the American Red Cross.

Statement by the American Red Cross on the 60th International Red Cross Ball

The 60th Annual International Red Cross Ball was held at Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida on Saturday, February 4, 2017. President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump attended the American Red Cross fundraising event. We are grateful to the nearly 700 people who attended this event and appreciate their generous donations which will help those affected by disasters, supply much-needed blood to patients and hospitals, teach life-saving skills, support our military and their families and provide international humanitarian aid.

Starting with President Woodrow Wilson in 1913, the President of the United States has consistently served as the Honorary Chairman of the American Red Cross.

The Annual International Red Cross Ball was founded in 1957 by Marjorie Merriweather Post, who offered her home, Mar-a-Lago, as a venue for raising much needed funds to support the life-saving mission of the American Red Cross. The event has been held there most of the past 60 years.
