In-town pool report No. 1a - Trump climate Q&A transcript
Philip Rucker • The Washington Post
May 31, 2017: 04:08 PM

I have transcribed the full exchanges between President Trump and journalists about the Paris climate agreement on Wednesday afternoon in the Oval Office. There were two exchanges, the first before President Trump and Prime Minister Phuc delivered their statements, and the second after, as the pool was being escorted out of the room.

Also note that Trump did not respond to a question about Jared Kushner, in the second exchange.

First exchange:

Journalist: "Mr. President, are you exiting the Paris accord?"

Journalist: "Any decision on the Paris climate deal, Mr. President? Are you close?"

Trump: "Very soon."

Journalist: "Are you leaning towards getting out, Mr. President?"

Trump: "You're going to find out very soon."

Second exchange:

Journalist: "Do you still have full confidence in Jared Kushner, Mr. President?"

Trump had no answer

Journalist: "No word on which way you're leaning on climate change?"

Trump had no answer

Journalist: "Can you tell us what the CEO's have been telling you on climate?"

Trump: "Soon."

Journalist: "Are you hearing from CEO's today?"

Trump: "I'm hearing from a lot of people, both ways. Both ways."

Journalist: "Are you leaning in a direction, sir?"

Trump: "I'm hearing from a lot of people both ways."

Journalist: "Do you believe that climate change is a hoax still?"

Trump: "Thank you, everybody."
