Pool report #16 - 5/24/17
Carol Lee • Wall Street Journal
May 24, 2017: 05:40 PM

Pool was not in President Trump's photo with King Philippe and Queen Mathilde. A preset camera was there.

Pool was brought into the room where POTUS is meeting with Prime Minister Charles Michel of Belgium. The US delegation, Rex Tillerson, HR McMaster, Dina Powell, Gary Cohn and others, was already in the room, along with the Belgian side.

Prime minister spoke first after the two of them entered and took their seats across from each other and flanked by members of their delegations. "Its a pleasure to meet you." He welcomed POTUS to Brussels. Pool could barely hear him. The acoustics were awful.

POTUS gave brief remarks:

"It's an honor to be with you. ... We've been looking forward to this trip.

He said he had a great discussion with the king. He said we will work together on various problems, the top problem right now is terrorism.

"We are fighting very hard, doing very well under our generals. Making tremendous progress. But when you see something like what happened a few days ago you realize how important it is to win this fight. And we will win this fight."

He said, "It's a horrible situation" what happened in Manchester, "unthinkable. But we will win."

They sat at a long table under an expansive crystal chandelier. There was a small plate of chocolates on the table.

Pool was immediately ushered out. We're holding in vans.
