Travel Pool Report #7: staff details supplement
Annie Karni • POLITICO
May 20, 2017: 02:33 PM

Some supplemental notes from your supplemental pooler, from the scene at the Royal Court:

After entering the ornate reception hall decorated with large chandeliers, each member of the American delegation was seated next to someone from the Saudi delegation in blue, high-backed chairs along the periphery of the grand room. On the dais with POTUS: Ivanka Trump, FLOTUS and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Everyone in the delegation was served tea.

Ivanka was engaged in an animated conversation for the majority of the tea ceremony.

FLOTUS, for the most part, sat stone-faced and did not engage in any conversation with the man seated next to her.

Closest to the dais, stage left, and in order: Wilbur Ross, Reince Priebus, Jared Kushner, and Steve Bannon, all engaged in conversations with the members of the Saudi delegation that sat separated them. Priebus at one point was laughing; Kushner at another point appeared to be relying on a translator to pursue a deeper conversation.

Spotted in the chairs along the long hallway, also participating in the tea ceremony and making hushed conversation with their Saudi counterparts: FLOTUS aide Stephanie Grisham, Hope Hicks, Dina Powell, Sarah Sanders, Michael Anton, Sean Spicer and Gary Cohn.

Everyone save for FLOTUS, Ivanka Trump and Tillerson left for a smaller audience with the King and POTUS after the tea ceremony.
