Both presidents made statements that were televised. President Abbas gave a lengthy statement speaking in classical Arabic. A spontaneous translation was avail into English by state dept translator.

The highlights of President Abbas speech are the following:

"Our strategic option is the realization of a 2 states solution, a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its captial next to the state of Israel living in peace and security on the 1967 border."

"A peace between both sides will give an impetuous to an International coaltion against terrorism esp against ISIS which distorts our noble Islamic religion "

"Peace also will lead to the normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab states."

President Abbas praised POTUS for "his willingness and desire and ability to find a new opportunity to start the peace process."

President Abbas believes the all final status issues including refugees and jerusalem can be solved and no unilateral action should be taken to undermined the negotiations according to international law.

He talked about the suffering of the Palestinian people demanding that Israel ends its 50 years of occupation to Palestinian land allowing Palestinians to live in freedom and dignity. " we are the only occupied people in the world ".

He responded to Israel criticism about incitement saying that "we encourage our children to be peace lovers and work for peace ".

He believe that a " historical peace agreement " can be reached under the " courageous leadership of President Trump".

POTUS and President Abbas shook hands twice.

Both Secretary of State Rick Tilerson and Depty Assistant for national security, Dina Powell stood behind the pool.

No questions were taken.

Pool ushered to cabinet room.
