First some news.
VPOTUS announced that President Trump plans to attend the US-ASEAN and East Asia summits in the Philippines this November, as well as the APEC summit in Vietnam in the same month.
"Our relationship has benefited both ASEAN and the United States" he said, describing the relationship as a "strategic partnership."
The organization, he said, "promoted prosperity and security" not just among members but across the Asia-Pacific.
Now to start from the beginning.
At 16:28 the motorcade left the hotel and arrived about 15 minutes later at the secretariat of ASEAN.
The Vice President was greeted in the foyer by Secretary General Le Luong Minn, who is from Vietnam. The pair exchanged pleasantries and walked into the building.
Your pool was walked upstairs into a meeting room, where VPOTUS met the 10 permanent representatives to ASEAN, he shook their hands in turn and thanked them or said it was an honor to meet them. "So good to meet you," he said to one ambassador.
VPOTUS sat at the head of the table, along side the representative of the Philippines, which has the rotating chairmanship at the moment and will host the ASEAN summit in November. The press was asked to leave the room as the meeting got underway.
Your pool was then led into a small art gallery, where VPOTUS was meeting 22 folks from the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative, YSEALI.
The Vice President made remarks praising the program for nurturing future leaders
"I have made a life long study of my leadership in my life and I'm not done studying it yet," he said.
A couple of the YSEALI people made remarks about their experience with the program and the pool was ushered out. We didn't hear any questions of VPOTUS.
VPOTUS then returned to the foyer to give remarks, where he announced the POTUS trip.
